Abdoulaye Elimane Kane
Born in Kayes, Mali, to Senegalese parents, Kane went to primary and secondary school in Senegal. He went on to study philosophy at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar and the Université Paris 1-Sorbonne. Kane is a teacher by profession, and taught for six years at the Lycée Blaise Diagne de Dakar, then in the philosophy department of the Université de Dakar until his retirement.
He held a number of administrative functions: head of the philosophy department (1987-1989), Senegal’s minister of communication and culture (1993-95 and 1995-2000) and cultural advisor to the mayor of Dakar since 2013. He is a member of the political office of Senegal’s Socialist Party. Kane is a writer, the author of many novels and of two philosophical essays.
