Casablanca is Morocco's economic capital and its largest city. Casablanca is also the first city in the Maghreb in population with almost 4 million inhabitants. Its area is 386.14 km². The municipality of Casablanca is divided into 16 boroughs. The city is located in the northwest of the country on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Morocco recognizes Arabic as an official language. The port of Casablanca is the largest artificial port in the world and one of the largest in North Africa.
