Valérie Pécresse was elected to the National Assembly in 2002. She has specialized in matters relating to families, education and research. Following the election of Nicolas Sarkozy as President of the Republic in 2007, Valérie Pécresse was given the Ministry of Higher Education and Research to conduct the reform of university autonomy and reform of the research. On June 30, 2011, Valérie Pécresse was appointed Minister of Budget, Public Accounts and State Reform, spokeswoman for the government of François Fillon. An elected member of the Regional Council since 2004, she became president after the regional elections of December 6 and 13, 2015. In January 2016, she resigned her MP mandate to concentrate on regional management.
