Urban safety and the global city - MONTREAL
Thematic Paper N°1: Urban safety and the global city: some Montréal perspectives
After the post-Cold war period, the notion of safety and security shifts towards a new paradigm. Beyond the tradition rol of the State (e.g.: public safety, civil protection, etc.), new safety concerns includes a more human-centered perspective, more and more focused on public health, community well-being and cohesiveness.
This thematic paper tries to provide a definition of urban safety based on Montreal experience. The authors also provide a few suggestions regarding how to approach urban safety in global cities.
