Today, more than ever, cities are on the front lines of the global challenges of living together. The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted existing inequalities and, in many ways, eroded the social fabric. In this challenging context, cities demonstrated great leadership and creativity to provide services to the population, as well as to encourage solidarity, cooperation and resilience.

Building on our previous dialogues, this Summit explored the current challenges and opportunities in terms of social cohesion and human rights and cities in a context of global recovery from COVID-19. - See

The event started with a political segment"Mayors Dialogue on the State of Social Sohesion in Cities" on December 7 (Mayors and elected officials). This session was followed by an "Interactive City Dialogue: Living Together: lessons learnt and perspectives for cities in the future", on the same day".

Within this event, a series of thematic workshops (open to the public) were held on Wednesday December 8 in order to exchange on the current trends and present innovative practices in cities.

Thematic workshop 1: Building resilience in cities

Thematic workshop 2: Fostering diversity, equity and inclusion

Thematic workshop 3: Promoting dialogue and solidarity

The event concluded on December 10, with an on-site High-Level Panel, in Izmir, that explored the links between living together, local democracy and human rights in the city, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.
